To enhance professionalism and efficiency in its Speed Post services, the Postal Department has entered into a collaboration with a private entity to outsource certain operations. The focus of this partnership is on processing Speed Post mail from the top 25 customers who contribute substantial bulk business to the postal service. The inauguration of the Speed Post processing center at Kharadi is scheduled to take place in Viman Nagar, with M S Bali, the Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra and Goa, presiding over the event on Tuesday.
Simultaneously, the Beat Code Mapping of Postal Addresses for customers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will also be launched. Colonel K C Mishra, Post Master General (Marketing and Technology), highlighted this development, stating, “After successfully trialing the project in Mumbai, we are set to introduce the same system in Pune. While many customers provide us mail in bulk, this service will specifically cater to the top 25 customers.”
Termed the Speed Post and Express Parcel Post Processing Centre, this facility situated in Kharadi will be managed by Millennium Soft-Tech Pvt Ltd under the oversight of the postal department. The operational process involves the private agency picking up parcels from customers, scanning them, assigning barcodes, sorting, sealing, and dispatching the mail to the transit mail office at the railway station. Colonel Mishra explained the rationale behind the collaboration with a private agency, citing the challenge of managing Speed Post with the existing workforce and addressing customer complaints about delayed mails from top clients.
